Fear, worry, pain, illness, poverty, rejection, anger, addiction, war, loneliness, crime,  hate, depression, racism, divorce, disease...
The list goes on and on. These are things we see not just in the news everyday but where we live, in our schools, neighborhoods, in our families, and even in our own lives. So much ugliness and despair all around us. There must be a solution to all of this, but what is it? We are told that man’s problems—our problems—exist because of our environment, and if we could just change our environment things would be better. The world is telling us that changing our environment will take care of our problems. Take away the guns, and murder rates will go down. Get rid of illegal drugs, and addictions will decrease. Increase the legal drugs to stop fear, anxiety, and depression.  If we can get everyone fed, everyone properly clothed, get everyone a good education, we can basically get rid of all of our problems. If we all just try harder to help meet these basic needs, we will fix the worst of our world. If we would just throw more money at everything, we can make it better.  That is the message we hear time and time again, and yet the world around us continues to get more and more dangerous. We see more hate and violence on the news everyday, and poverty all around the world continues to increase.

Is there any hope?

The Bible gives us a very different message and a singular solution and hope. God is very clear that cleaning up the outside will not take care of the inside. If we are honest with ourselves, we know this to be true. We can put on our best clothes, get our hair done, and look our very best, but that does not change what is in our hearts. Cleaning up our outside does not take away our fears, worries, doubts, addictions, anger, depression, or anything else.

The issue is NOT our environment--the external or the internal. The Bible says our hearts are evil and wicked in every single one of us. Man is sinful by nature, so the SOULution can only be a spiritual one, not a physical one.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

God created man to be in a relationship with Him, but man sinned and created a separation between mankind and God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

God made a way!

Because God loves you and everyone else so much He sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth over 2000 years ago to seek and save the lost.
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the one and only SOULution to mankind’s heart problem (John 14:6). We must each individually make a decision to either receive the free gift of salvation offered to us by God through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ or to reject it. If you make a decision to receive the gift of salvation, you become one of God’s children. “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)

Faith is the key.

We need to recognize we did nothing to earn this free gift. We cannot purchase this gift or do enough good things to earn this gift. We simply need to receive it by faith given to us through God’s amazing grace. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God Promises Eternal Life to ALL who receive Jesus Christ.

“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
(1 John 5:11-13)

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’” (John 3:3)

Saying the “sinner’s prayer” is simply a way of declaring to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no “magical” words that result in salvation. It is only faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a prayer you can say to God:

Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin, but I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness, and I trust in Him and Him alone to save me. Thank you, Lord, for saving me and forgiving me, and help me to follow you. Amen.
